Diya Aur Baati Ham TV star Deepika Singh is all set make
a grand comeback. The actress is gearing up for her first assignment after
pregnancy and motherhood.
SpotboyE.com caught up with the talented Deepika at her Mira Road flat,
yesterday afternoon
Excerpts from the conversation that followed:
How's life after becoming a mother?
It's an amazing feeling. I am enjoying every bit of it
with my son. I stay in a joint family, so I have help from many quarters.
People are there with me, taking care of my baby. So I am quite relaxed. Let's
put it this way: That I am relishing motherhood is an understatement.
Who decided the baby's name?
His initial letter came as 'S', many of them suggested
different names to Rohit (Deepika's husband) and me. But see the irony, after
his birth wherever we travelled, we saw Soham written around us.
And then, we both sat down and discussed. But we were little skeptical as there
are many other lovely names that start with 'S'.
But one day, one of our uncles said: Why are you guys giving so much of a
thought? Soham is a wonderful name with a beautiful meaning. It's an auspicious
name which means "Main hoon parmatma". And then we felt, Bhagwan yahi
chahta hai.
Who is more close to him- Rohit or you?
Of course it's me, after all I am her mother. Right now I am on a break, so I
spend a lot of time with him. Rohit, on the other hand, is in Jaipur directing
an upcoming show. Rohit speaks to him on video calls, and often Soham keeps
indicating towards the mobile phone- and I know he is missing him.
Do you miss your shooting days and glamour world?
What I miss is my acting. I have never treated myself as
a celebrity. I had always kept it normal. Going on the shoots and coming back
home is all what I did. It was an like office job to me. So I don't actually
miss that lifestyle.
But yes, I miss shooting as it was an essential part of my life. And
that's why I am trying hard to get back to acting. I have just done some
meetings. Let's see what God has in store for me.
Honestly, I don't feel that I have kept away from my fans even after
Soham was born, as I have always been in touch with them through social media.
Lekin kaam to karna hai, screen pe vapas aana hai.
Fans were excited to know about your web series Soul Mate, what's the status
now?
I think fans will have to wait, little more, for Soul
Mate. We did shoot some episodes. But then I got busy with the baby and Rohit
got a project. So, now I don't know when things will resume on Soul Mate.
What kind of roles you expecting now?
I did not come to Mumbai with the intention to play the
lead. God was grateful to me and I became Sandhya Raati of the successful show
Diya Aur Baati Ham. So I still think in the same way. Whatever comes my way, I
will take it--- and I promise to do justice with it.
But I would love to do an inspiring role, if you specifically want to know what
I am yearning for.
Is Rohit supporting your decision to return to
work?
Very much. In fact, he keeps motivating me. Recently we
had a conversation where he said now that you have lost quite a bit of weight,
what are you waiting for? He also explained that now when the baby is 8-months
old it's better if I come out. or else later it will be difficult for him as
soon as he starts understanding. And as we stay with a joint family I am not
worried about my child as he is in safe hands. And they really take care of him
even when I am here (pauses).
Go on..
I want work not for money but my fans. Wherever I go,
they ask me: When are you coming back? They want to see me onscreen. It gives
me a high (smiles).
What platform are you looking for to showcase your talent
this time? TV again?
Acting is my hobby and I want to live it. But I won't do
a reality show until the time it's a dance reality show. I love dancing.
Lekin haan, my personal favourite is the daily soap as I have a kind of
attachment to that format (pauses).
Please continue...
People will only approach me if they will have an apt character of me. I don't
think my image is that of a beautiful or glamorous girl- and I never tried also
to project myself in that way. People find me to be a talented artiste.
But yeah, if a role demands that I need to glam, why not?
I am all for it, as long as my role is good.
Tell us about your fad for Odissi dance?
I love Indian classical dancing and I always wanted to
learn it. But as I belong to a family where people go for an administration
job/ business, I never got that opportunity.
After coming to Mumbai and taking up a house, the first thing I did was I
started learning Indian classical dance.
I also want to give a message to the ones who think that
if you don't learn Indian classical dancing from childhood, you cannot. I
started my training in 2013 and today I can give live performances. In fact, this
even helped me to have a normal delivery. It is a sort of a yoga which doesn't
have an age limit.
Are you following any particular diet to maintain yourself now?
I have hired a nutritionist, Kinita. She has given
me a diet plan, which has worked.
I was facing a lot of hair-fall after Sohanm was born. Thankfully, it got
rectified.
My skin has also improved. My energy levels are high. I am feeling good and
rejuvenated.
And honestly, I want to change this thought of people who
believe that a woman can't work after she has a baby. I have been asked these
questions during my recent work-related meetings and it's weird.
I just want to tell these guys that becoming a mother doesn't stop you from
working. There are thousands of women who come back from their maternity
leaves in 6 months and resume work. So why can't we actors do
that?
